The Universal Muslim Association of America (UMAA) is an non-governmental organization (or “NGO”) that works on social, political, religious, and humanitarian issues. UMAA is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization as well. UMAA has obtained ECOSOC non-profit status with the United Nations and regularly participates in related initiatives.
UMAA aims to provide a platform for American Shia Muslims to advance political, social, economic and religious goals important to their community. By providing a American Shia Muslims a forum to foster intra-faith unity, to participate in civic and political responsibilities, to dispel misgivings about Islam and Muslims, to help fellow Americans better understand Islam through the Qu’ran and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his Ahl al-Bayt (AS).

Whether you are a student aspiring a career in social work or a business person who loves to preserve and care about the local history or a couple looking to get married in an awesome traditional way. UMAA has a long history of partnering with organizations that are committed to social justice and positively impacting our communities.
These local partnerships are a priority for UMAA because we know that to impact real and lasting change, creating smart policy is not enough, we need strong relationships with local organizations doing the work in our communities.
We also know that many organizations doing this impactful work need an immediate and long term talent infusion. We’ve designed the fellowship to immediately bring talent into partner organizations to increase their impact, and we work to retain this talent in our communities Our fellows benefit from the opportunity to learn alongside some of the most talented leaders and organizations. This experience influences the policies they create, ensuring coordination and communication among those who create policy and those who implement it.
